Mobile Dating Apps Mimic Sexual Impulse Say Experts

Smartphone dating apps are soaring in popularity, not because they offer users an easy way to meet others looking for love, but because they replicate "real world" dating experiences better than traditional online dating sites, psychologists have claimed.
Apps like Tinder and Grindr allow people to scroll through pictures of users in nearby locations, and then chat with people who "like" their profile pictures.
Others are much more direct. Bang with Friends (BWF) allows users to identify which of their Facebook friends they would like to be more than friends with. If both parties feel the same way, BWF notifies them. BWF was pulled from Apple's app store, but that hasn't stopped it from creating 200,000 pairings since its January launch. Colin Hodge, BWF's boss, admits he came up with the concept while "a bit tipsy".
These apps are based more on a person's first impression of other users' physical appearance, which is often more instinctive and mirrors people's real-life impulses much better than traditional online dating sites like Match.com, e-Harmony and Plenty of Fish.
Online dating sites often ask people to create detailed profiles stating their preferences in a perfect partner to help match them with potentially compatible dates.
But psychologists say mobile dating is a much more social experience that can lead to more "serendipitous" meetings. Psychologists argued this may be more romantic than being matched to a partner by a dating website algorithm. But it's not clear how many people using mobile dating apps are looking for true love.
Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, professor of psychology at University College London, told The Times: "[Using a dating website] is almost like booking a holiday or a job application, as you try to customise your partners. Mobile dating – and Tinder is a good example – is different. It is more linked to impulse and emotions and focuses on attractiveness and looks, which is more realistic, even if it is a bit more lazy. It replicates the traditional version of dating more closely than Match.com or eHarmony as it allows for more serendipity."
Graham Jones, an internet psychologist said: "Mobile dating apps are a more sociable activity that you can use with friends down the pub rather than sitting at home on your laptop on a dating website."
Five digital dating tips
(Source: PC Mag)
  1. Search for your date on Google and Facebook to get a feel for his or her personality and history.
  2. Do not be shy about ordering a background check on someone before meeting.
  3. Remember that sarcasm does not translate well in written text.
  4. Keep your expectations low. Online sparks do not always mean real-life fireworks.
  5. Don't visit online dating sites while drunk or otherwise not fully in control of your faculties.

Android 4.4 KitKat Release Status for Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3

Samsung's 2012 flagship smartphones, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 will reportedly get Android 4.4 KitKat by this month.
Last month, it was rumoured that Samsung was testing the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the second generation Galaxy Note. GFXBench posted a listing of the South Korean variant of Galaxy Note 2 bearing the model number SHV-E250. The data in the listing suggested that Android 4.4.2 for the Note 2 was noted in the OS section.
As for the Galaxy S3, it was earlier rumoured that the smartphone would not receive the Android KitKat upgrade as it had a 1GB RAM, whereas the Android 4.4.2 was heavily optimised to run smoothly on smartphones having only 512MB RAM.
But if the latest report is to be believed these two aforementioned smartphones of Samsung will receive the KitKat upgrade soon.
According to Gforgames, a certain Samsung customer from Korea managed to get in touch with Samsung's support line. When asked about the KitKat update for Galaxy S3 as well as Galaxy Note 2, he was informed that Samsung was expected to release Android 4.4 for Galaxy Note 2 in the middle of this month.
This is contrary to the previous report, which claimed that the KitKat update was almost ready and Samsung would reportedly be sending it to the carrier for certification soon. The update is expected to come sometime at the end of this month.
Besides, the Samsung representative mentioned that the Galaxy S3 would receive the KitKat upgrade sometime either at the end of this month or, in early May.
It should be noted that these KitKat release time frames for Note 2 and Galaxy S3 are only for South Korea. But if these devices receive the Android 4.4 update around April and May in South Korea, the global roll-out of the update should not be far behind.

Unhappy Apple Rumor: 'iPhone 6' Might Cost $100 More

Apple fans are looking forward to a potentially thinner phone or bigger screen, but there may be another less-than-thrilling update to the so-called "iPhone 6": a price increase.
According to Jeffries analyst Peter Misek, the next iPhone may even come with a heftier price tag. In a company research report sent to The Huffington Post, Misek states: "Our checks indicate Apple has started negotiating with carriers on a $100 iPhone 6 price increase. The initial response has been no, but there seems to be an admission that there is no other game-changing device this year."
Now, as Cult of Mac points out, Misek doesn't exactly have a stellar track recordwhen it comes to Apple rumors, so take this with a healthy grain of salt. He has gotten a few right (like the name of the iPhone 4S when everyone else thought it would be the iPhone 5), but he's definitely missed the boat a few times as well (he's been predicting an Apple HDTV for years -- still no sign of that).
In a time when Apple is struggling to innovate, a price increase may seem like the worst possible idea for the already expensive iPhone, but as Business Insider points out, it may not be that strange if Apple does release a 5.5-inch version of the iPhone. "Phablets" like the 6-inch Galaxy Note 3 already sell for $100 more than their smaller counterparts.
Misek's report claims that with no other hot-ticket phones set to be released this year, carriers might be willing to let Apple get away with a price hike on its next device.
Misek also suggests that even a smaller price increase of $50 on the new iPhonewould be worth it for Apple.
But with a healthy crop of solid Android options available for far less, it's debatable whether people would pay for a more expensive device from Apple. Time -- and paychecks -- will tell how much people really want to upgrade to the next model.

Best iOS 7 Jailbreak Tweaks 2014: Check Out The Latest New Cydia App Store Arrivals March 26 - April 5, 2014

    Auxo 2 (iOS 7) by A3tweaks

Auxo 2 is an exciting new iOS 7 jailbreak tweak to arrive in the Cydia jailbreak store April 2, 2014. The tweak features powerful app switching and multitasking capabilities not seen in any other application on the official app store or in Cydia.
Auxo 2 is one iOS 7 jailbreak tweak that probably needs little fanfare as anyone who has used the earlier version knows what a powerful and beautifully designed task-switching tweak this is. However, with it's update for iOS 7 it brings with it some additional new features many of use can love. At its core, Auxo 2 is comprised of three powerful features: Multi-Center, Quick Switcher, and Hot Corners. By intuitively utilizing the bottom edge of the screen, all three functions perform synergistically with one another as well as completely stand-alone, depending on your configuration.
Multi-Center gives you the ability to slide up from the bottom middle edge of the screen to access your Multitasking display, without losing the vital functionality traditionally found only in Control Center. Here you have access to the app switcher, brightness and volume sliders, playback controls and info, toggles, AirDrop and AirPlay, as well as the quick launcher (via a swipe up from the bottom, if hidden). Multi-Center also lets you expand app previews by pulling them downward, view full-screen album art by tapping the track title (hold to open app), and even beautifully close all apps by swiping the home screen preview up! Use Minimal Display mode for a cleaner look by hiding AirDrop/AirPlay and track seeker sections (still accessible via a swipe near the top or bottom).
Quick Switcher is the fastest way to travel between your most recently used apps, in just a single input. Simply pull up from the bottom left region of the screen to access, slide your finger to the app you want to switch to, and release. All the while getting nearly full-screen app previews! If the app you want to switch to is not in your most recent six, enable Unlimited QS to allow autoscroll through all your recent apps when you reach the edge. If Multi-Center is off, slide up further to transition Quick Switcher into the traditional multitasking display.
Hot Corners let you use the bottom right and left edge regions of the screen to quickly get to your home screen or access multitasking, in one single swipe. Start sliding up from the bottom right to beautifully animate back to the home screen. If Multi-Center is off, slide up from the bottom left corner to transition into the traditional multi-tasking display. Enable Inverted Hot Corners to access multitasking from the right and the home screen from the left, instead (note: this overrides Quick Switcher).
Definitely one of the best new iOS 7 tweaks for iPhone to release this week, Auxo 2 is live on the Cydia jailbreak app store for $3.99.
